Discover the vineyards of Alsace

Alsace is a wine-growing region renowned for its quality wines. The vineyards of Alsace offer a wide variety of grape varieties, many different terroirs, picturesque landscapes and a rich history.

Alsace grape varieties and terroirs

Alsace has 7 unique and varied grape varieties, the most famous of which are Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. Each grape variety has its own distinct characteristics, giving each wine its own particular flavour.

Alsace’s terroirs are also numerous and varied, the result of intense geological activity over hundreds of millions of years that has created a veritable mosaic of soils unrivalled anywhere in the world: sandstone, limestone, granite, schist, volcanic soil, loess, clay and alluvium are just some of the rocks that give structure and varied minerality to Alsace wines.

At Domaine GUETH, independent winemaker Muriel is proud to produce top-quality organic Alsace wines. You’ll find the 7 Alsatian grape varieties grown on 2 of Alsace’s terroirs: marl-sandstone and marl-limestone.

Had a fantastic time having a tour of their wines, some local cheeses and cured meats.

Delightful presentation about their wines and philosophy. Interesting tales of specific vintage making. Genuinely interesting story telling about the different soils of Alsace and Muriel’s singular vision of the grapes and the wines they make.

It is also insightful visiting a relatively small wine maker … they have 8 hectares and produce around 40k bottles a year. So they have a very different story to tell of wine making and bottling.

As an aside the wine was also all worth drinking and it was an honour to have the owner/makers doing the presentation.

Cant recommend a visit highly enough.

We were looking for a wine tasting & tour near Offenburg as a short sightseeing from my business trip. During the planning, I found that a few vineyards do offer an accommodation + the things we were looking for. So, the side trip has become more of a priority and we found Domaine Gueth a perfect spot! Muriel is passionate winemaker of the 7 or 8th generation and dedicated on a natural way of growing the grapes and wine making process.
.
I'd recommend at least a night stay, you can visit the city, have a nice dinner or take a bus/drive to Colmar the next morning.
.
The room is fabulous (the best of our 2-week trip so far) and very-well designed by the husband. But you should book well in advance through their website as there are only 2 rooms available and they get fully booked quite quickly.
.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay. Sometimes, simply is the best!
